biography

Jezebel plays imaginative and exciting pop-rock. The music distinguishes itself from anything you’ve heard before, both because of characteristic lyrics but also due to a strong signature sound that’s inspired from many genres, from progressive to folk music.
The result is experimental, sophisticated, rare and beautiful music that is also catchy, fun with lots of drive. The two female songwriters and the special sound of the bands two female lead vocalists is still a trademark for the band. (The bands members)
Jezebel was formed in 2001 by Helene Ring Teppan and Vivian Mari Ozalbo. At the time the band was called Go Brutal Sweeties and the first song was made in one week. The music was quite traditional pop/rock, and the name was found in a pin-up calendar from the 1920s. The band consisted of four girls and a male drummer.

After a brief period, in which the band was called Sidestreet Sirens, the music changed direction with the birth of the song Simple Solutions. They then started using more untraditional elements; electric guitar played with a violin bow and more frequent use of unusual time-signatures and beats. During the spring of 2003, the band changed their name again; this time to Jezebel. At this point the band headed for the studio for the first time and recorded a demo consisting of three songs: Blame Me, Strangest Patterns and Simple Solutions. Jezebel got their first shot at national fame, when NRK Petres radio show for unsigned bands, Urørt, played Simple Solutions on air. Later the songs “Dissect” and “My Phantom Limb has been recommended for listening by Urørt. In 2007 they entered the studio again, now with the release of the two track single “Brainscape”. One of Jezebels newer song “Phantom Limb” was reviewed live on the air April 2nd 2007, in which it was among other things described as gutsy, beautiful and expressionate.

The period from 2003-2006 has been characterized by a constant evolution of the repertoire, active use of the internet for promotion and concerts in Oslo.
